Answers to the questions we get most often, and where to find the photos from 2026.
Who can take part?
High school students. In 2026, more than 180 came from across Greater Victoria. You don’t need to have done a case competition before.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Entry is free; sponsorship covers the costs.
How big are teams?
Four to six students.
What happens on the day?
After the opening ceremony, teams get the case and have a little over two hours to prepare. Every team presents to a panel of judges, and the finalists present again later in the day. The 2026 times are on the Conference page.
What do the judges look for?
A clear recommendation, sound reasoning, and a team that can explain what should happen next. Nobody expects a finished plan.
Who mentors and judges?
Students and faculty from UVic, UBC and SFU check in with teams while they prepare. The judges come from the same three universities.
What does the winning team get?
$1,000. The top five teams can also keep working on their ideas through the Project Incubator.
When is the next Velocity?
It hasn’t been announced. The date goes out on Instagram first, at @velocitycasecomp.
Can I volunteer, judge or sponsor?
Yes. Volunteering and judging are on Our team, and partnering is on Sponsorship.
